Janey Kirk
Janey started singing professionally at the age of six. At that
young age she was whisked away every weekend to perform at various
functions across Fife and beyond.
By the time she left school she had a following of fans who came to
see her five nights a week at two local venues. It was while singing
at one of these venues she was approached by the manager of a young
band named Hi-Lite. With them she served her apprenticeship
performing across the whole of Britain in theatres, clubs and
corporate events.
After three and a half years with Hi-Lite and aged 24, Janey
appeared on New Faces where she came in second place. This was when
her career officially took flight. She was asked to sing with Joe
Loss at Blackpool's Winter Gardens, sing with Vince Hill, and work
with The Nolans. She toured Britain with Sydney Devine and appeared
on "Your Cheating Heart" with Guy Mitchell. This led to her debut
appearance on "Taggart". When she was approached by Celtic Football
Club to sing and record a song to celebrate their centenary year she
was filmed by the BBC at the Celtic Social Club while performing "
I’ll Follow the Bhoys”. Thousands of copies of this original vinyl
record were sold at the time and the track is still available today
from some Celtic retail outlets.
Demand for personal appearances meant that Janey was turning work
away so rather than doing this, she started to pass this work on to
fellow singers. This led to Janey becoming a pro booking agent and
Music Management was born. This side of Janey's business blossomed
and this meant her personal singing career took a back seat.
Recently, Janey decided to develop her songwriting abilities, and
this took the form of several original tracks appearing on her
latest CD, "Sweetheart Darlin’ of Mine". There are 15 songs in total
on the CD, four of which are Janey's original material. You may
guess from the title that this shows a revival in Janey’s interest
in the country genre.
Janey has a further 3 brand new songs now which will be released as
an EP. This is the latest recording in a series that Janey has
released throughout her career . These include "Your Other Love" and
"Stay a While". Janey’s recordings show a breadth of material
including modern pop, rock, standards and classics, these form the
body of her live performances.
Janey has been inspired to re-launch her career since DJ's across
Britain, Europe and America are regularly playing her original songs
and are requesting more material which she is currently recording
with Rec Records.
To date, she has been a guest on many radio stations throughout
Britain and Ireland. At present Janey is working with a top studio
in London with the intention of recording and promoting her original
work with well known labels such as Warner Bros. and Epic.
Another recent development is the promotion of her songs via the
internet, they’re now available on ITunes. Janey has also created a Myspace music
site, this can be found at
www.myspace.com/janeykirk.
